ABOUT ME

Learn about Mechele de Avila Evans, LCSW — a licensed therapist in Baton Rouge, LA with 30+ years of experience treating anxiety, depression, and trauma in adults.
MEET MECHELE DE AVILA EVANS, LCSW
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Louisiana with over 30 years of experience helping people navigate depression, anxiety, and trauma.

I specialize in working with individuals who feel complex, intense, or different—people who often don’t see themselves reflected in traditional therapy spaces.

My approach is grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and attachment-focused therapy based in Attachment theory. Together, we look at how your experiences have shaped the patterns you’re living with today—and how to begin shifting them in a way that actually lasts.

I believe in “good enough,” not perfect. (If you’re aiming for perfect, we’ll gently work on that.)

I also bring something personal into this work. I understand the reality of healing from trauma—not just professionally, but as someone who continues to do that work myself. That perspective allows me to meet you with both skill and genuine compassion.

This is a space where all parts of you are welcome—even the ones that feel messy, guarded, or hard to understand.
NAVIGATING MY EARLY CAREER
Early in my career, I  worked with adults navigating mental health crises and substance use  disorders at an inpatient facility. I later joined the State of Louisiana at  Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority, where our team launched one of the  region's first dual-diagnosis programs treating mental health and addiction  simultaneously, a model that is now considered the standard of care.
OPENING MY PRIVATE PRACTICE
I opened my first private practice in New Orleans in 2005, then moved to Baton Rouge in 2010 to marry my wonderful husband. After working across several agencies, I returned to what I love most: private practice. I've honed my listening and treatment skills over more than 30 years of practice. I've earnestly studied how to treat trauma, depression, and anxiety. I provide compassionate counseling services to adults in Louisiana. I do not judge you, I empower you. I work with you and support you with insights and tools to guide you on your wellness journey.
A SAFE ACCEPTING PLACE
This is your journey back to yourself. We'll focus on what you can do to change the thoughts, situations, or behaviors that no longer serve you — and give you relief that you've been needing for a long time. You've had enough people tear you down. Let's build you back up. Let's clear out the weight you've been carrying. It no longer serves you. Together, we'll find and heal the pain and the hurt. I'll remind you that you're human — just like everyone else. You don't need a perfect life. Just a good-enough one where you're happy and thriving. Come in. Take a breath. Learn to love to relax. Learn to live the life you love.

a safe space for every part of you
